I am a self taught stone sculptor facinated with the concept of looking at a stone and envisioning the life that lies beneath. Most of my work is not preplanned but rather the piece reveals itself as I chisel away its facade. Also a poet, I often become inspired by a word or phrase and endeavour to translate that idea into the piece.
I work with hand tools which takes a considerable amount of time longer, but to me the challenge of finding the hidden beauty is far more gratifying.
I prefer the abstract form of art because it allows not only myself, but others, a journey of imagination and perception. What I see in a piece may not be what someone else envisions. Art in general is a subjective form of visual stimulus and I enjoy hearing how others interpret my work.
